Automakers are developing solutions to protect their vehicle networks against unauthorized access, including potential cyber attacks. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) recently implemented a Secure Gateway Module which was introduced on a selection of their 2018 and newer vehicle models. For vehicles equipped with the Secure Gateway Module, access to certain diagnostic functions requires registration and authentication through a device approved for all aftermarket scan tools. Due to the safe gateway module, it is not possible to write new TPMS sensor IDs to the TPMS module.
To install new Autel 1-Sensors on a Chrysler product equipped with an SGM follow these 6 simple steps using the Autel TS508
Step1. Make sure TS508 or TS508WF has the latest update;
Step2. Use Advance Mode to select your year make and model;
Step3. Select option #2; Program Sensor;
Step4. Select option #1; copy by OBD;
Step5. Program each sensor, one-at-a-time, making sure each programmed sensor is installed in the proper wheel position;
Step6. Service is complete!
By using the copy by OBD programming method we are using the information that is already stored in the car’s computer. We are not introducing new sensor ID’s and therefore eliminating the need for a relearn. We are simply providing the sensor information that the cars computer is looking for.
